Hoop dance is a form of moving meditation similar to Yoga, or Chi-gong. Increased awareness, confidence, and freedom of self-expression are some of the benefits of hoop dancing. Weight loss, toned muscles and general awesome-ness are also a common benefit of hoop dance. Oh, and we hear hooping can burn between 400-600 calories per hour! Hoop dance can be incorporated into nearly every form of movement expression, such as belly dance, modern, and hip -hop dance. Their is no wrong way to hoop. And with the right hula hoop anyone can be a hoop dancer. Chicago Hoop Dance is comprised of a networked community of performers, hoop dancers, hoop teachers & students.
